🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #287
I find it hard to forgive because it feels like excusing my spouse's wrong. What should I do?
Forgiving does not mean saying the wrong was fine; it releases the burden of resentment that weighs most on your own heart. Allah encourages: “and let them forgive and overlook. Do you not love that Allah should forgive you?” (Surah an-Nur 24:22). You can still seek justice or set boundaries; forgiving does not mean letting the wrong happen again. Begin by praying for your heart to be eased, because forgiveness usually comes in stages, not all at once. Let go of the intention to retaliate, even if the feelings have not fully settled. A forgiving heart is calmer and closer to Allah's mercy. If the wound is too heavy, get support from a counsellor. See trials in a marriage.
