Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #313

My spouse is a little jealous and I feel bothered. Should I see it as a sign of love?

Ghirah in proportion is a sign your spouse cares, and accepting it graciously is different from submitting to control. Not all jealousy is bad; not wanting to share your spouse's honour is part of healthy love. Rather than taking offence straight away, try to understand the worry behind it and reassure them with reasonable transparency. Appreciate that they care about you. However, there is a clear line: protective ghirah is acceptable, but control, accusations and restrictions are not. Discuss together where the boundaries lie that both of you are comfortable with. Love and respect go hand in hand. See relationship psychology.
