🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #307
I feel jealous of my spouse's success and career, which keeps growing brighter. How do I manage this?
Jealousy of your spouse's success is really envy (hasad) in disguise, and it damages you before it damages them. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Do not envy one another” (Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Birr wa as-Silah wa al-Adab), because resenting someone's blessings means not accepting how Allah has apportioned things. You and your spouse are one team; their success is your family's success too. Turn that feeling into support, and celebrate their achievements sincerely. If you feel left behind, set your own goals and work towards them, rather than pulling your spouse down. Pray for blessings (barakah) for them. A supportive heart is calmer than a competing one.
