Must a husband provide a separate home for each wife?

Yes, each wife is entitled to suitable housing of her own; the husband may not force the wives to live under one roof without their free consent.
Allah SWT says: house them where you live, according to your means (Surah at-Talaq 65:6). The jurists state that a dwelling (maskan) must have its own privacy and facilities. It need not be a large house or a house on a separate plot; a separate unit in one building with its own door and facilities is enough if it suits the husband's means and custom. Bringing them together in one shared residence is only permitted with everyone's consent. See Maintenance (nafkah) and Two-household finances.
