Q&A › Raising children (tarbiyah)

🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #70

My young child cries loudly every time I leave for work. Is this normal, and how can I help?

Separation anxiety is a healthy sign that your child is attached to you, not a sign that they are spoilt or that you are a bad parent. It peaks at a young age and eases with time. Keep goodbyes short and calm: give a hug, say you will come back, and leave confidently without sneaking away, because disappearing suddenly adds to their anxiety. Leave them with a trusted carer and a comforting object. Practise short separations at home to build their confidence. Always come back as promised so that they learn to trust that you will return.
