How do I toilet-train my young child without forcing or scolding them?

Toilet training succeeds when it follows the child's readiness, not a schedule imposed by adults. Watch for signs of readiness, such as being able to hold on for a while and telling you when they need to go. Start calmly, take them to the toilet at set times, and praise every attempt even if it has not yet succeeded. Small accidents will happen; clean up without anger or shaming them, because shame slows the process. At the same time, teach the manners of cleaning oneself (istinja) and the short dua for entering the toilet. Every child moves at a different pace, so be patient and do not compare with other people's children. See children.
