How do I teach a young child to give salam and say thank you from an early age?

Young children learn manners not from lectures, but from seeing and hearing them again and again at home. Say salam aloud every time you enter the house and say thank you to family members in front of them, so that they absorb the habit. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever does not thank people has not thanked Allah” (Sunan Abu Dawud 4811), and these manners begin at home from a young age. Guide their hand to wave and say the words slowly. Praise them with a smile when they do it on their own. Do not embarrass them in front of others if they forget; remind them gently afterwards. See everyday adab.
