Q&A › Raising children (tarbiyah)

🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #77

My baby cries a lot and I am starting to lose patience. What can help us both?

A baby's crying is the only way they can tell you their needs, and your patience is part of that care. First check the basics: hunger, a wet nappy, sleepiness, being too hot or too cold, or needing to be held. Carrying, gentle rocking and a soft voice usually soothe them. When you yourself feel close to losing patience, put the baby down somewhere safe, breathe for a moment, and never ever shake them. Ask your spouse or family to take over so that you can rest. If the crying is unusual or you are worried about their health, take them to a doctor. Looking after yourself enables you to look after your baby. See mental health.
