Q&A › Raising children (tarbiyah)

🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #127

I am a single mother. How do I guide my son who is entering puberty without a father beside him?

You are still able to guide him well, and for truly sensitive matters, a trusted man can help. Explain the bodily changes and the responsibilities of puberty factually and calmly, without feeling awkward. For matters such as the obligatory bath or specifically male questions, ask for help from a righteous grandfather, uncle or male teacher. Keep nurturing prayer, manners and the boundaries of mixing as usual. Give him trust and small responsibilities so that he feels valued as a young man. You can also ask a counsellor or an ustaz at the mosque to guide him from time to time. Further guidance is at educating the family.
