Q&A › Raising children (tarbiyah)

🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #207

I am a single father and my daughter is entering her teens. How do I guide her in matters I understand less?

A teenage daughter needs knowledge, trust, and a trusted woman for the matters you find hard to explain. Build an open relationship so that she is comfortable asking, and do not be embarrassed to admit there are things you do not yet know. Ask for help from a trustworthy woman, such as a grandmother, aunt or teacher, to explain periods, womanhood and her feelings. Provide what she needs without her having to ask again and again. Respect her privacy while still keeping track of her friends and activities. Show love through time and attention, not only through providing for her (nafkah). See educating the family.
