🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #78
Does a young child need a fixed daily routine, and how do I build one?
A fixed routine gives a young child a sense of security because they know what will happen next. Set roughly the same times for waking, eating, playing, napping, bathing and going to bed. A routine does not mean rigidity; it is a loose framework that can change with circumstances. Build the prayer times into the rhythm of the day so that the child grows up knowing them as part of life. Give a gentle warning before switching activities, for example ‘after this we'll tidy up the toys’, so that transitions are easier. An orderly day reduces tantrums and makes children calmer.
