Q&A › Raising children (tarbiyah)

🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #67

My young child has trouble falling asleep at night. How do I build a calm bedtime routine?

Young children fall asleep more easily when their evening follows the same calm sequence every day. Set a fixed bedtime, and reduce bright lights and screens for an hour beforehand because they stimulate the brain. Make a short sequence: bath or wash, pyjamas, the bedtime dua and one or two short surahs, then dim the lights. A soft voice and cuddles help their body feel safe. Avoid exciting games close to bedtime. If they wake up frightened, stay with them a while without getting angry. Over time their body learns the signals that it is time to rest. See du'a & prayer.
