How do we choose two suitable marriage witnesses? Should we invite VIPs?

Choose men who meet the conditions and will truly pay attention, not simply because of their title or rank. Marriage witnesses must be Muslim men who are of age, of sound mind, able to hear and see, and who understand the language of the contract. The Shafi'i school also requires witnesses who are upright (adil). A VIP can be invited, but make sure he arrives early and is not in a hurry to leave. A respected relative, the local imam or a friend who keeps up his prayers are good choices. Also have a standby witness ready in case someone is late.
