How can we be sure the marriage officiant who marries us is properly accredited?

Use a marriage officiant appointed or arranged through the state Islamic religious affairs office, and do not deal with ‘officiants’ offered through agents. An accredited officiant holds accreditation (tauliah) from the religious authority for a particular area. Ask the religious office for confirmation if someone else gives you an officiant's name. Be wary of offers of a quick marriage with no course, no forms or no marriage approval. Marriages like these can cause registration problems, and the consequences are felt by the wife and children later. See unofficial marriage.
