📜 Akad nikah · #98

My husband-to-be wants a modest mahr, but my family wants a high one. Whose view should we follow?

The mahr is your right, so your voice as the bride matters most in deciding it. Your family may want a high amount as a mark of dignity or protection. Your husband-to-be may be worried about whether he can afford it. Ask yourself first: what amount do you feel is fair and blessed? Then tell your family respectfully, for example: ‘I would feel more at peace with a modest mahr and secure maintenance after the wedding.’ You can also suggest an additional gift later, when your husband is better able. A decision you make yourself is easier to stand by. See the amount of mahr.
