The wali stated the wrong value of the mahr during the contract. Is the contract valid?
Generally, misstating the mahr does not invalidate the contract, because the mahr is not a pillar of marriage. However, it can raise questions about how much mahr is actually owed. If the mistake is noticed immediately, the marriage officiant will usually ask for the words to be repeated with the correct amount. If the mistake is noticed after the ceremony, write down the actual amount agreed and inform the marriage officer so the record is corrected. Do not leave this hanging for years. For more complicated questions, the state Islamic religious affairs office can assess your situation. See a name misstated during the contract.
