📜 Akad nikah · #96

Can the mahr be paid by bank transfer or e-wallet?

Yes; what matters is that the value of the mahr is clear and that it actually reaches the wife. Many couples now transfer the mahr into the wife's account before or after the contract. State the amount in the contract and whether it is paid in cash or owed, following the format the marriage officer uses. If it is transferred online, keep a screenshot or statement as proof of payment. Make sure the account is in the wife's own name, not her parents' account or a joint account, so that her right is clear. Ask the marriage officer in your state how handing over the mahr is accepted on the day of the contract. See mahr (dower).
