What happens after I make a police report about domestic violence?
Your report will be investigated by the police, and you may be referred to the JKM and helped to apply for a protection order.
Usually: a police officer takes your statement, you are referred for a medical examination (the OSCC at a hospital), and a case is opened under the Penal Code together with the Domestic Violence Act 1994. You can ask for an IPO during the investigation and, if needed, be placed in a shelter. The report also becomes important evidence in Syariah Court claims such as fasakh, maintenance and custody (hadhanah). Making a report is not disobedience to your husband — Islam forbids injustice. Keep a copy of the police report. Help: police 999, Talian Kasih 15999. See Nushuz & conflict.
