Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #131

I have received a divorce summons from the Syariah Court. What should I do?

Do not ignore the summons; read it carefully, note the mention date, and attend court on the date set. If you do not attend, the court may proceed with the case without hearing your side. Identify what is being applied for in the summons, whether confirmation of divorce, fasakh, hadhanah (custody) or property. Then think about what you want: to reconcile, to agree on conditions, or to object. Gather basic documents such as the marriage certificate, the children's birth certificates and financial evidence. Get advice from a syarie lawyer, or from the Legal Aid Department if you cannot afford a lawyer. Bring a family member for emotional support on the day. See syariah Court procedure.
