Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #153

I was the one who applied for divorce, but now I am haunted by guilt. How do I make peace with this decision?

Feeling guilty does not necessarily mean your decision was wrong; it is also a sign that you are a responsible and caring person. Write down again the reasons you applied for divorce, and the efforts you tried before that. Reading that list on heavy days helps you see the decision more fairly. Distinguish between regret over the pain that happened and regret over the decision itself. If you made mistakes in the marriage, ask Allah's forgiveness and make it a lesson, not a life sentence. Allah says: “Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear” (Surah al-Baqarah 2:286). Read the explanation at mental health.
