Berapa lama tempoh bertunang yang sesuai dalam Islam?

Syarak tidak menetapkan tempoh khusus; yang dianjurkan ialah tidak memanjangkan tanpa keperluan. Tempoh bertunang bergantung kepada persediaan kewangan, tempat tinggal, pengajian dan urusan keluarga. Namun tempoh yang terlalu panjang sering membawa masalah: godaan untuk melanggar batas, perubahan hati, campur tangan pihak lain, dan kos yang meningkat. Ramai ulama menasihatkan agar pasangan yang sudah serasi dan mampu disegerakan nikahnya. Jika ada halangan seperti pengajian, satu pilihan ialah melangsungkan akad yang didaftarkan secara sah terlebih dahulu dan menangguhkan majlis walimah. How long is a suitable engagement in Islam?

The Shariah sets no specific period; what is recommended is not to prolong it without need.
The length of an engagement depends on financial preparation, accommodation, studies and family matters. But a very long engagement often brings problems: the temptation to cross boundaries, changes of heart, interference by others, and rising costs. Many scholars advise that couples who are compatible and able should marry soon. If there are obstacles such as studies, one option is to conclude a lawfully registered contract first and postpone the walimah.
