🕊️ Conflict & resolution · #160

I have repented of being unfaithful, but the guilt does not go away. How do I deal with it?

A proportionate sense of guilt is a sign of true repentance, but despairing of Allah's forgiveness is not part of repentance. Allah is Most Forgiving to the servant who regrets, cuts off the sin, and resolves not to repeat it. Keep improving yourself and fulfilling the rights of the spouse you hurt, because that means more than endlessly tormenting yourself. Increase your istighfar and good deeds, and make the guilt a spur to goodness, not a chain that paralyses you. If it affects your health to the point that you cannot function, seek help from a knowledgeable person or a counsellor. Allah's forgiveness is wider than your wrongdoing. See counselling.
