After infidelity, how much transparency is reasonable for me to ask for without it turning into control?

Healthy transparency aims to restore confidence, while control aims to punish; the one easily turns into the other if you are not careful. In the early stage of recovery, openness about contacts and movements related to the betrayal is reasonable. But if monitoring spreads to every personal matter and is never enough, it becomes a burden that exhausts both of you. Discuss together what form of transparency is needed and set a time to review it as trust recovers. The goal is a relationship that eventually stands on confidence, not permanent surveillance. If you find you cannot stop monitoring, that is a wound that needs treating. A counsellor can guide this balance. See communication & emotions.
