🕊️ Conflict & resolution · #167

My adult children know their father was unfaithful and are very angry. How do I handle this?

Adult children's anger at their father's betrayal is natural, but you can guide them so they are not consumed by hatred. Acknowledge their feelings without forcing them to take sides or carry the conflict between the two of you. Avoid using them as an outlet for all your resentment, because that burdens them. Encourage them to keep good manners towards their father even while angry, because a parent's rights remain even when the father is in the wrong. At the same time, do not force them to pretend nothing happened. Give them room to process it, and suggest a counsellor if the anger is tormenting them. Handle your own recovery separately from their wounds. See counselling.
