Q&A › Family finances

💰 Family finances · #106

If I am already content with my provision, do I still need to save and plan my finances?

Contentment with your provision and financial planning go hand in hand; tawakkul (reliance on Allah) does not cancel prudent effort. Saving for emergencies, the children's education and old age is part of fulfilling the family's trust, not a sign of lacking trust in Allah. Allah praises moderation in those who spend: they “are neither extravagant nor miserly, but hold a balance between the two” (Surah al-Furqan 25:67). Prepare a simple budget, set aside a little savings first, and avoid debt for wants. Planning reduces worry and makes qana'ah (contentment) easier, because you are not living in financial fear. Leave the outcome to Allah after making the effort. See family finances.
