We are still healthy. Why do we need to prepare a will and plan our estate early?
Preparing a will (wasiat) while healthy is a sign of responsibility and love, not a sign of inviting death. Death does not wait for illness, so important matters are best recorded while you are still well. A clear will reduces disputes among heirs and ensures rights are fulfilled, including settling debts and trusts. Also record important information such as accounts, debts and funeral wishes so the family is not left floundering. Remember, a will does not override the faraid (Islamic inheritance) distribution, but complements it within the permitted limits. For valid and detailed preparation, consult the religious affairs office, Amanah Raya or a syarie lawyer. See preparing for death.
