My husband and I both work. How is our zakat on income handled?

Zakat on income is calculated on the income of each individual who meets the conditions, so husband and wife each assess their own share. Zakat is the right of those in need within our wealth, not just a voluntary contribution. Make it a regular family practice: set a time to check and pay it, and teach your children to see it as worship that purifies wealth, not as a loss. Because the rate, nisab and haul have specific conditions, refer to your state zakat board for an accurate calculation. Avoid delaying once it has become obligatory on you. Wealth on which zakat is paid is more blessed and brings more peace. See family finances.
