Q&A › Conflict & resolution

🕊️ Conflict & resolution · #126

Every time we try to talk, it ends with me crying and the issue unresolved. What do I do?

Crying during a discussion is not weakness, but a sign the issue touches deep feelings and your body is overloaded. When the tears come, pause for a moment; it is hard to think clearly in that state. Say, ‘I need to calm down for a moment, but I want to continue,’ so your spouse knows you are not running away. Take time to breathe and drink some water, then come back. Also notice whether the tears are about the current issue or an old wound that has been triggered. Discuss one small thing at a time, not everything at once. If every discussion is too overwhelming, a counsellor can teach calmer ways. See communication & emotions.
