🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #278
I said something very harsh when I was angry and now I deeply regret it. What should I do?
Words cannot be taken back, but sincere regret and real change can heal many wounds. Do not pretend it never happened or blame your spouse for ‘making you angry’. Go to them humbly: ‘What I said just now was wrong and hurtful; I am truly sorry.’ Do not follow the apology with excuses that defend yourself. Then show change, because an apology repeated without change loses its value. Also seek Allah's forgiveness for a tongue that wounded. Give your spouse time to heal, and guard your tongue better in future. See communication & emotions.
