🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #142
What should I do when my spouse is crying or very sad?
Be there and hold them first; in a moment of sadness your spouse needs your calm, not an immediate solution. Sit with them, hold their hand, and let them pour it out without being interrupted or judged. Avoid saying ‘don't cry’ or ‘that's a small thing’, because it belittles their feelings. Ask gently what you can do to help, and respect it if they only want company. Once they have calmed down, discuss solutions if they want to. Your calm in their moment of weakness binds hearts more closely than a thousand pieces of advice. See mental health.
