Q&A › Raising children (tarbiyah)

🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #218

How do I teach my child to respect grandparents who are not Muslim without confusing his faith (akidah)?

Teach your child two things at once: to hold firmly to tauhid (the oneness of Allah), and to keep loving and respecting his grandparents. Explain according to his age that we worship only Allah, but we are good to everyone, including family of a different religion. Let your child visit and help his grandparents while you watch calmly. Answer your child's questions honestly and briefly when he sees the practices of another religion, without insulting anyone. Strengthen the foundations of religion at home through prayer and stories so that his heart is firm. With this balance, your child learns love and conviction at the same time. See educating the family.
