How do I encourage my elderly parents to write a will without looking as if I am after their property?

Start with concern for their peace of mind, not with who gets what. Many elderly people avoid this topic for fear of death or fear of their children quarrelling. Choose a calm moment and speak from the heart, for example: ‘Ayah, we want your affairs to be easy later on, with no misunderstandings.’ Offer practical help, such as drawing up a list of assets or going with them to see an Islamic estate planner. Let them decide for themselves what goes in it. It is better if all the siblings agree first, so that no one looks as if he is pushing. If they are not ready yet, respect that, and try again another time. See preparing a will early.
