Apart from dividing property, what else should I write in a will for my family?

A good will also includes a list of debts, unfulfilled trusts and messages for the family. Note your debts to others and others' debts to you, including undocumented ones, so your heirs are not left wondering. Allah says: “When ye deal with each other, in transactions involving future obligations in a fixed period of time, reduce them to writing” (Surah al-Baqarah 2:282). Also state debts owed to Allah, such as overdue zakat or fasts not yet made up. Include how you want your body handled simply, and whom you trust to look after your children. Finally, write a short, comforting message: prayers, forgiveness, and the hope that your children stay close as siblings. See starting your will.
