My name is misspelt on my marriage certificate. How do I correct it?

A spelling mistake does not affect the validity of the akad, but it should be corrected so that your documents match. The marriage certificate is used for many things, such as registering a child's birth, maintenance (nafkah) claims and inheritance. A spelling that differs from your MyKad can delay those matters. Take the original marriage certificate, copies of both spouses' MyKad and supporting documents to the district Islamic religious office where the marriage was registered.
