🧭 Region & Middle East · #74

My husband works in Singapore and wants us to buy a house in Johor. I worry about the loan if he loses his job. Am I right to worry?

That worry is reasonable, and it should be discussed as part of the decision, not treated as an obstacle. Cross-border income depends on the job, the work permit and the exchange rate, and all three can change. Work out the monthly instalment you could still afford if your husband had to come back and work in Malaysia on a ringgit salary. Build an emergency fund covering several months of instalments before buying. Avoid a house that is too big because of pressure from others. Record clearly the owner's name and each party's contribution. If needed, get advice from AKPK before signing the agreement. See family finances.
