Our salaries are in a foreign currency but most of our spending is in Malaysia. How do we budget when the exchange rate keeps changing?

Plan your budget on a low exchange rate, not the most favourable one, so that currency swings do not threaten your basic needs. Separate fixed expenses such as rent, instalments and school fees, and make sure they are all paid even if the rate falls. Any surplus in months when the rate is good can go straight into an emergency fund. Avoid taking on large debts on the assumption that the rate will stay high. Review this plan together every few months, because the believers are those whose “affairs are decided by mutual consultation among them” (Surah asy-Syura 42:38). If debt starts to weigh on you, AKPK can help restructure repayments. See family finances.
