My wife is a foreigner and our child will be born in Malaysia. What should we arrange early so that our child's documents are complete?

Make sure your marriage is registered in Malaysia before the child is born, because that document is the basis for registering the birth and the child's status. Keep the marriage certificate, your wife's passport and her valid pass somewhere easy to reach. After the birth, register it at the National Registration Department (JPN) within the set period, and make sure the father's name is recorded. Ask JPN about additional documents for a foreign mother, because the requirements can differ. Do not delay, because late matters are usually more complicated. Once the birth certificate is ready, apply for the other documents your child needs, such as a passport. See recognition of marriage.
