I live with my husband abroad. He is rough with me and keeps my passport. What can I do?

These are signs of danger and control, and you have the right to protection even in a foreign country. If you are in danger now, call that country's police emergency number immediately; in Malaysia, that line is 999. Contact the nearest Malaysian embassy or consulate; they can help Malaysians in emergencies, including with travel documents. Keep copies of documents, important numbers and a little money somewhere your husband does not know about. Note the date of every violent incident, and keep photos of any injuries. Your family in Malaysia can call Talian Kasih 15999 to get advice on your behalf. You are not to blame, and you do not have to bear this alone. See domestic violence.
