Should I agree to sulh (mediation) or reconciliation if my husband has abused me?
You do not have to face or reconcile with an abuser; your safety comes first and you can ask for a safe procedure.
The principle of sulh (mediation) in Islam is a just reconciliation (4:128), not forcing a victim to accept injustice. The principle la darar wa la dirar puts preventing harm first. Tell the Sulh Officer or the court about the history of violence, and show the police report or protection order; you can ask for separate sessions, for a lawyer to be present, or to go straight to a hearing. An agreement made under fear does not reflect true consent. For immediate help: police 999, Talian Kasih 15999. See Nushuz & conflict and Women's Rights.
