How do I keep evidence of abuse and plan for safety?
Record every incident safely and prepare a safety plan before the situation becomes an emergency.
Useful evidence: dated photos of injuries, medical reports (OSCC), copies of police reports, screenshots of messages or threats, notes of the dates and times of incidents, and the names of witnesses. Keep copies where the abuser cannot reach them — a personal email or with someone you trust. Safety plan: prepare a bag with your IC, marriage certificate, children's birth certificates, medicine, money and phone; memorise important numbers; identify a safe place; and agree a "code word" with a neighbour or family member. Contact the police 999, Talian Kasih 15999 or JKM for a shelter. This evidence also matters in the Syariah Court. See Nushuz & conflict.
