Must I have my own house before marrying?
Owning a house is not obligatory, but the husband must provide suitable housing according to his means — it can be rented.
Scholars cite at-Talaq 65:6 (house them where you live, according to your means) as evidence that housing is part of a wife's maintenance. The home must be safe, give privacy and meet basic needs. Living with in-laws is permitted if the wife consents and her privacy is protected; the wife has the right to ask for a space of her own. Do not delay marriage merely because you cannot yet afford to buy a house. Discuss the living arrangements before the contract. See Maintenance (nafkah).
