🕊️ Conflict & resolution · #218

My spouse is clearly not emotionally well but refuses to see a doctor or counsellor. What can I do?

You cannot force an adult into treatment, but you can lower the barriers and make the first step feel safe. Many refuse out of shame or fear of being labelled, so avoid words that blame. Choose a calm moment and gently share what you have noticed, for example: ‘Dear, lately I see you struggling to sleep and feeling low; I am worried.’ Offer to go with them to the clinic, and start with a family doctor, who is less intimidating. If they still refuse, keep supporting them, keep an eye on how they are, and get advice for yourself. Pray for them; a heart that is prayed for is more easily softened. See counselling.
