Q&A › Existing wife & prospective wife

🤝 Existing wife & prospective wife · #184

May I pray for good for my co-wife, and does that help my own heart?

Praying for good for your co-wife is a noble practice that does the most to calm your own heart. It is hard to keep hating someone you sincerely pray for; prayer softens the heart little by little. The Prophet ﷺ taught: “be servants of Allah, as brothers” (Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-Birr wa as-Silah wa al-Adab), and this brotherhood includes fellow wives. If a heartfelt prayer is still hard, start with a general prayer asking for peace for everyone. It is all right if your feelings have not yet caught up with your words; sincerity grows with time. See co-wife relations.
