Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #114

I work and earn my own salary. Am I still entitled to iddah maintenance?

Yes; the right to iddah maintenance does not fall away just because you have your own income. Maintenance (nafkah) is a husband's duty arising from the marriage and the iddah, not help given only to wives who do not work. Your salary remains entirely yours. Even so, the amount still takes into account your ex-husband's means and your actual needs. If you choose not to claim in order to keep the relationship good, that is your right, but make that decision consciously and not out of guilt. Discuss the amount in writing, and go to the Syariah Court if there is no agreement. See also maintenance after divorce.
