Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #115

I left the marital home before I was divorced. Am I still entitled to iddah maintenance?

The answer depends on why you left; leaving because of clear harm is different from leaving without reason. A wife who leaves the home without a permitted reason may be regarded as nusyuz (disobedient), and this can affect maintenance. But if you left because you were hurt, constantly humiliated, not given maintenance or felt threatened, the situation is not the same. Gather whatever supports your account: messages, medical reports, police reports or family witnesses. If you have ever been in danger, call the police on 999, and get support from Talian Kasih 15999. The Syariah Court is the right place to weigh the evidence of both sides. See nusyuz.
