🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #113

How does the court decide how much iddah maintenance I should receive?

The court usually weighs two main things: your ex-husband's means and your reasonable needs during the iddah. Allah says: “Let the one who has means spend according to his means” (Surah at-Talaq 65:7). So prepare evidence of your ex-husband's income and lifestyle, such as payslips or details of his business if he has one. Also list your monthly expenses: food, rent or house instalments, utilities, transport and medical care. A clear figure backed by receipts is easier to consider than an estimate. Officers at the Syariah Court or a syarie lawyer can help you put your claim together properly. Read more on the maintenance amounts page.
