Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #108

I am a mother who is sad because my daughter is marrying and moving away. How do I manage this feeling?

That sadness is a sign of love, and you can feel it while still giving your blessing to your daughter's step. Many mothers feel mixed emotions: pride, worry and loss. Admit the feeling to your husband or a friend, so it does not come out as prohibitions or sarcastic remarks to your daughter. Use the time left before the akad for activities together, such as cooking family recipes or talking about married life. After she marries, settle on a way of keeping in touch that does not intrude on her new space, for example a weekly call. Remember, you are not losing a child; you are gaining another child in the family. See in-laws.
