Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #402

My parents have not embraced Islam. How should I be devoted to them?

Embracing Islam does not cut your duty of devotion to your parents; in fact Islam requires you to treat them even better. Keep visiting, contacting and helping with their needs, and show beautiful character as a reflection of your religion. Allah teaches us to be humble towards both parents: “And, out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility” (Surah al-Isra' 17:24). There is only one limit: you do not obey them in matters that go against religion, but even that refusal is conveyed gently. Let the good change in you be the most heart-touching form of dakwah. See interfaith.
