Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #411

My non-Muslim family often asks why I embraced Islam. How do I answer?

Answer your family's questions calmly, honestly and lovingly, not in a challenging tone or by belittling your old beliefs. Share your personal reasons in a way that is easy to understand, such as the peace and meaning you have found, not a long lecture. Allah teaches: “(always) say a word directed to the Right” (Surah al-Ahzab 33:70), so choose words that are true and gentle. Admit what you do not know and offer to ask someone more knowledgeable. Listen to their views without arguing to win. Very often, your character answers better than your words. See interfaith.
