What should we expect from couples counselling after infidelity?

Counselling after infidelity is a guided space for both of you to talk honestly without arguments turning into war. The counsellor helps the unfaithful spouse understand the impact of what they did, and helps the betrayed spouse express their pain rather than bottling it up. Expect conversations that are sometimes painful before they bring relief; recovery is not comfortable from the start. It requires both of you to come honestly, not to prove who wins. Choose a counsellor you are both comfortable with and who respects your religious values. If your spouse refuses to attend, you can still get counselling for yourself. Progress is measured over several sessions, not one meeting. See counselling.
